Rahayu Retnaningrum is an Indonesian artist born in 1994 in Jakarta whose very colorful work is a real reinterpretation of our world and spaces. The work of the artist is inspired by the concept of Pharmakon, implying that every object is pharmacological, and a fortiori both remedy and poison. Furthermore, her artistic practice aims to merge and simplify everything surrounding her, by bringing a new perspective.

New perspectives between nature, geometry and color pushed to the limit. By exploiting the urban landscape, Rahayu Retnaningrum materializes a metaphorical society, made up of subjects who intermingle and merge to form a single entity. Blending organic and geometric forms, the young artist highlights the contrast between the two landscapes that have animated her daily life, and stages them in harmony in a new reality. Her work has been rewarded in 2010 on the occasion of the national painting competition of the Indonesian National Gallery.

“Seeing my painting move for the first time was magical. Suntoon didn’t just animate my work—they truly understood its soul. It felt like my art was breathing.”
